Its Good To Have Your Lips Sealed!
by Musthafa Ebadi on April 30th, 2014

How often are you in a discussion where everyone is adding value? Do you find yourself sometimes in meetings where one or two individuals just like to make noise?  Do you get frustrated with their constant  unimportant chatter?

We all have attended meetings where we want to reach across the table and smack someone upside the head because they just continue to express their irrelevant opinion non stop.

The reason that these people like to talk is because they like to make their presence felt, and/or feel compelled to say something so they don’t  come across disinterested or dumb! However what they overlook is that by talking without adding any value to discussion they are making a fool of themselves.

Whether you are in a personal discussion or professional discussion its good to have an opinion or perspective however before you express yourself ask if that will add value to discussion? Would it move the discussion forward or would it derail it?

There is nothing wrong with being absolutely quite in a discussion as long as you are actively listening and paying attention if you think you will not add any value by opening your mouth. Participating doesn’t always mean speaking.

When people realize that you only speak when you have something of value to add they will start respecting your view point. They will know that you will only speak to help the discussion. Over time you will develop a reputation that when you will speak people will listen and will be immensely interested in what you will have to say!

So if you don’t have anything of any value to add in a discussion keep those lips sealed!

Give it a try and see the level of your respect among your family, friends, peers, and superiors increase.
